Deacon Alister Clifphen Gomes, SVD will be conferred priestly ordination by the Bishop Emeritus of Port Blair, Bishop Alex Dias SFX, at the Our Lady of Snows Church, Raia on Tuesday at 9.30 am.
Son of Augustino and Piedade Gomes, Alister had joined the seminary at a very young age of 12, when he was in Class VIII in the year 2006. He did his schooling at Our Lady of Snows School, Raia and pursued his Higher Secondary studies at St Alex, Curtorim.
After his studies, he was sent to Madhya Pradesh for spirituality, integration and study course.
After his promotion for graduation studies in Loyola College, Chennai, Alister returned back to Madhya Pradesh for one year of Novitiate. From there, he was sent for Philosophical studies for two years in Bhopal. After completing his philosophical studies, he underwent one year of Exposure immersion programme (EIP) in Gujarat.
During his exposure immersion programme, Alister was allotted the responsibility of accompanying the poor Adivasi hostel students and helping and guiding them in their school studies.
After this beautiful experience, he spent the final three years of theological studies in Divine Word Seminary at Pune. During these years he got the acolyte and lector ministries and did his final vows on January 15, 2022 and was ordained a deacon on January 16, 2022.
He is assigned to India Central Province (INC) and completed his diaconate ministry in Udaipur, Rajasthan among the Bhil tribe. After ordination, Alister will once again go back to work among the tribes in Rajasthan.
