SANGUEM
A little over 10 days after a tree came crashing down on a car and killed a woman taking driving classes at Sanguem, authorities on Monday begun to chopping those trees which were lying dangerously by the roadside in Sanguem constituency.
Officials have reportedly undertaken a survey of all such trees and sent the report to the forest department to get its permission to cut the trees.
The Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) cut a huge mango tree which was lying dangerously at one corner of the Sanguem Bus Stand near the spot occupied by motorcycle pilots and frequented by people visiting the Sanguem Bus Stand.
The cutting operation which began at 7.30 am was completed only at 12.30 pm, bringing much relief to the motorcycle pilots and others.
After the recent incident, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai convened a special meeting with Sanguem Deputy Collector Ashvin Chandru, Sanguem Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit and others wherein it was resolved to inspect all trees lying dangerously by the roadside in the constituency. It was also decided to complete the exercise of cutting all such trees within 90 days.
