After GOACAN knocked the doors of the district authorities highlighting the failure of the Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa (SIDCG’s) failure to comply with the conditions along the Old market circle-KTC road which is dug for laying of sewerage line, the District Magistrate has cracked a whip against the agency.
Additional South Goa district Collector, Srinet Kothwale got back to GOACAN and communicated the measures initiated by SIDCGL to ensure the safety and security of pedestrians and motorists at the work site.
GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins told the media that the representation made by the NGO had an impact on the ground after the district authorities got the SIDCGL to put in place the conditions imposed by the authorities.
He pointed out the for the first time, work on the sewerage laying work had commenced since last year, the SIDCGL has installed a board, stating the agency which is involved in executing the work at the site.
He further pointed out that the contractor and the agency has cleared the footpaths meant for the pedestrians of the debris as a result of which the pedestrians were forced to walk on the road.
Besides, he said the contractor has finally carried out proper barricading of the roads with signals for traffic diversion at the site.
GOACAN had last week submitted a representation to the South Goa district Collector, highlighting the danger posed to motorists and pedestrians by the sewerage works and the failure to comply by the conditions imposed by the district Collector.
