Dead monkey raises scare in Valpoi at Valpoi

Carcass of a monkey found in Valpoi Municipal Council area on Sunday rnafternoon has caused a scare amongst the villagers.

The residents have expressed fear of spread of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) or monkey fever from remote or panchayat areas to the municipality or the city area.   
According to sources, after getting the news of monkey carcass being found at Valpoi, the villagers flocked to see the dead monkey spotted in a private property, very close to residential area at Valpoi.   
The owner of the house, where the dead monkey was found, called the KFD Control Room at Valpoi Mamlatdar’s office and later, forest officials took away the carcass from the spot.  
 Meanwhile, over 70 KFD cases were reported in Sattari in last 2 months, including 2 deaths.  
 It is learnt that all the three samples of carcass of monkeys found in Sattari and which were recently sent for testing at Manipal are tested positive of KFD virus.  
 KFD cases are also being reported near the State’s boundary in Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra.
