Believe it or not, a dead man is reported to have raised objection and has sought the deletion of 14 voter names from the Mormugao constituency electoral list.
GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar highlighted this incident and he along with office bearers and others protested outside the Deputy Collectors office on Tuesday afternoon.
Amonkar submitted the death certificate of the objector to Deputy Collector Sachin Desai and alleged that attempts were being made to delete around 900 valid names from the electoral roll using fake objectors in connivance with the BLOs and BJP-backed councillors.
“BLOs are working under pressure and most of the objectors are from places in Maharashtra,” said Amonkar while speaking to reporters.
“The objectors are fake and everyone I called said they had never objected to any names and are not even aware that they are being used as objectors,” said Amonkar.
“When I called one phone number on the website to ask his reason for objections, I was shocked to find out that the person was dead 10 months ago and I obtained his death certificate as well.”
Amonkar said this was a big fraud and an attempt to erase the names of Congress supporters, especially those who are Christians, Muslims and Non-Goans from Baina.
“The online process has loopholes and anybody can raise objections against anyone and demand deletion of names,” he added.
“The Deputy Collector has now assured to call all objectors for a personal hearing along with the people whose names are asked for deletion and not allow deletion of these 900 names.”
“We will take up this matter with the collector, elections commissioner and also file a formal complaint in the matter," said Amonkar.

Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Desai on Tuesday assured that no names would be deleted without verifying the details of objectors along with their signatures.
Desai also warned that action would be initiated if any fraudulent reports were made by the BLOs.
"There is no question of any illegality because once the names are entered, we are bound to take action but before that, the objectors will be verified after which the BLO report will be taken. I have also assured that we will personally visit houses where more names are to be deleted with the Mamlatdar,” Desai told reporters.
A notice will be issued to the elector whose names are to be deleted to his registered house address, which is with us in the roll. Seven days will also be given to the person to reply.”
"Details of objectors, which is mandatory in the form, will be verified. I have told the GPCC members to bring forth any signature fraud to my notice so that we can conduct an enquiry and take necessary action. If the objector’s identity is in doubt, he/she will also be summoned.”
“We will take action against the BLO if any fraudulent reports are found and may also consult the police if needed,” Desai added.
