Death of Goans abroad: 3 cases pending resolution

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the House that three cases involving death of people of Goan origin are pending resolution abroad.

Parrikar provided this information while replying to a question tabled during the ongoing monsoon session of the assembly.
The first case relates to death compensation in the case of a certain Agnelo Pedro Borges, who died in a road accident in Kuwait in 2014.
On this, Parrikar replied that the Embassy of India in Kuwait has appointed a lawyer to represent legal heirs of the deceased and has also handed over original power of attorney and dependency certificate to the lawyer in March 2017 for filing death compensation case.
The second case involves a certain Manoj Ramnath Naik, who was a truck driver with Al Sabeel General Transport in Dubai, and who died in a road accident in UAE.
Parrikar informed that the family of deceased has received Rs 21 lakh towards settlement of dues from the company. But, an additional claim towards insurance, pursued through a lawyer, is still awaited.
The third case involves settlement of death compensation in case of a certain Neves Zacarias Aguiar, who died in an accident in Sharjah in 2016. Parrikar informed that the family of the deceased has approached his employer for payment of service dues and insurance benefits, as they are facing tremendous financial difficulties.
Further, Consulate General of India (CGI) Dubai has taken up the matter with the person's employer in February, this year.
Whenever such cases happen, the NRI Commission in Goa seeks the assistance of Indian Mission in the country concerned to bring the case to its logical end. However, Parrikar said that there is no full-fledged Department of NRI Affairs in Goa, as the state has a NRI Cell headed by the Commissioner for NRI Affairs.
