Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Shantaram Naik on Friday questioned the use of a monogram of Deendayal Upadhyaya on official forms of the Mines Department of Goa government.
Speaking at Congress House, Naik stated, “A monogram of Upadhyaya, who opposed the independence of the country and the ideals enshrined in the Constitution of India has been printed on government forms. He was a casteist by nature. Can we worship such a man? Printing Upadhyaya’s monogram on government forms amounts to betrayal of founding fathers of our Constitution.”
Naik said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is also the Mines Minister of Goa, should explain to the people of Goa whether he would like to worship a man who spoke about treating Muslims and Christians as slaves.
“If not, the first thing Parrikar should do is publicly denounce the thoughts propounded by Upadhaya and remove his monogram from the forms of mines department,” Naik argued.
The GPCC chief also criticized the chaos and confusion which prevailed at the recent recruitment procedure at North Goa Collectorate and alleged that the entire recruitment process was ridden with corruption.
There were approximately 2,500 aspirants queuing up before North Goa Collectorate for 64 posts, of which 40 posts were of lower division clerks and 24 posts of data entry operators. Naik said that calling for interview for jobs for duration as less as two to 10 months, is a torture and amounts to violation human rights.
“I am told that there is corruption involved in this recruitment. I do not know if the CM is going to refer this matter to Vigilance Department for investigation. If not, will the vigilance department investigate this matter suo motu?” he demanded.
Naik further alleged that aspirants may have paid a bribe of up to Rs 20 lakh and urged applicants to come forward and confess if they have paid a bribe for recruitment.
