Over 900 objections have been filed against the draft delimitation reports of wards of village panchayats in the State, most of these (650) in North Goa.
State Election Commission (SEC) sources said, most of the objections received by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) were in North Goa and Bardez taluka alone accounted for 271 pleas filed by citizens.
Several politicians and political parties too have raised questions over the delimitation process.
The Congress and the Goa Forward Party (GFP) have questioned the haste in which the SEC has set about rolling out the delimitation process for the
panchayats.
The two parties which incidentally tied up to fight the recent Assembly elections, results of which are due on March 10, have voiced the demand that the process be delayed beyond the Assembly election result.
Meanwhile, according to SEC sources, the EROs in Pernem have received 88 objections to the draft delimitation reports in the taluka. Forty-one objections were submitted in Bicholim and 14 in Sattari.
Bardez was the taluka where EROs were flooded with objections. Nearly 400 objections were received by the EROs of the taluka, the source said.
The number of objections in the South Goa talukas was relatively lower. In Salcete, EROs got 98 objections and in Mormugao the figure was 40.
