Seven of the 19 Goan students who have been stranded in Ukraine have so far been evacuated and have reached India. Six of them have arrived in the State, while one student is in New Delhi.
This was stated by Goa NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar on Thursday, who informed that Goan students are safely returning to Goa. “We have one student who arrived in New Delhi,” he said.
One student, Karen Fernandes, had reached Goa, while a student from Borda-Margao had arrived in New Delhi.
According to Sawaikar, most of the Goan students have been successful moved to safer destinations, except for two students in the Kharkiv city in Ukraine and one student in Sumy. “The exact locations of three students is not known. Two students have reached Romania, 3 are in Hungary and one in Poland,” he said.
Later, NRI Director Anthony D’Souza gave information that on Thursday, total 3 students arrived. One of them is Shaphan Anthony Almeida from St Inez, Panaji who was greeted in Delhi by Goa Sadan officials.
Another 2, one boy and one girl were in the plane which was supposed to land at Delhi.
