The Administrator of Comunidades, North Zone could not carry out the demolitions of 22 structures on Comunidade property in Survey 81/1 at Sangolda, as directed by the High Court, because the demolition squad did not report at the site on Tuesday morning.
Authorities have until March 15 to comply with the orders of the HC.
In its order on February 6, the HC had dismissed the petition of the owners of 22 structures seeking extensions, with a remark that applicants keep on applying for extensions and once the extensions are finally refused, they refuse to comply with their undertakings.
The HC had directed the Administrator of Comunidade, Mapusa, to remove the encroachments on Comunidade property and file a compliance report along with photographs by March 15.
Acting on the request of the Administrator of Comunidades, the Office of Deputy Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Panaji, in an order on February 22 had granted a demolition squad to the Administrator of Comunidade on February 27 at 9.30 am to demolish the 22 illegal structures.
ABSENT SQUAD
The executive engineer, Works Division XII, was requested to provide 20-30 labourers, four trucks, two JCBs, and two jeeps along with drivers to the demolition squad, while the Superintendent of Police (North) was directed to provide 100 armed police personnel on February 27.
However, nobody reported at the site on Tuesday.
The Administrator of Comunidades, Sagar Gawde, called on the office of Sangolda Comunidade to inform the office bearers of Comunidade that the demolition squad was unable to reach the site on account of some problem and hence, the demolition could not be carried out as scheduled.
He then called the Mamlatdar and asked him to go to Sangolda and also requested Saligao Police to depute a team.
The Saligao Police Station sent two police personnel, while the Mamlatdar went to the office of Sangolda Comunidade but did not go to the site.
6 MORE SERVED NOTICES
Later, the staff of Administrator of Comunidades along with the office bearers of Sangolda Comunidade went to the site and served notices to the remaining six owners of illegally constructed structures in Survey 81/1.
When contacted, Administrator of Comunidades Sagar Gawde told The Goan that the demolition of 22 illegally constructed structures could not be carried out as the demolition squad could not report at the site.
“The HC has given a deadline of March 15 for compliance with the order. We have served notices to six more owners of illegal structures in Survey 81/1. These six houses will be demolished along with the 22 houses once the demolition squad is made available,” said Gawde.
