Govt directs PWD to fix 12 black spots at the earliest

PANAJI

Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to begin rectification measures at 12 identified black spots prior to the announcement of the code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Chairing a high-level meeting to review the accident scenario in the State, the Minister also decided to come cracking down on vehicles, particularly rented cars, found guilty of more than two serious offenses. These cars, he said, will be impounded.

“The works for rectification of 12 identified black spots should start immediately,” he said speaking to reporters after the meeting, on Tuesday evening.

Godinho also assured to expedite the installation of AI cameras at 91 designated locations to capture violations and issue fines to the respective vehicle owners. Likewise, he added, that signage, road markings, and other road safety measures will be systematically taken up.

“Every life is precious. We have to do everything for the safety of people,” Godinho added.
