Rented cars to be impounded over serious offences

PANAJI

Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has issued a stern warning to owners of cars given on rent, particularly, about facing impoundment if they are booked for more than two serious offences. The warning comes in the wake of a series of traffic violations, often leading to accidents.

“We won’t allow rash and negligent driving. We will see to it that RTO or the police impound the cars, involved in more than two serious offenses,” he said.

He cited the two incidents involving rented cars wherein gross violation and negligence by its drivers took away the lives of three locals.

The minister also insisted on installing speed governors, failing which these transport cars will be taken into custody. He also warned that besides the drivers of rented cars, its owners will also face penal action for every violation and/or accident.

“The operators are also responsible for the nuisance because they just give away the cars for money,” he slammed.
