Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday asked councillors from Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to join hands with him to fight the coal pollution issue in the port town.
Speaking to reporters, Amonkar said he had already sought an appointment with the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) Chairman on Friday morning to discuss the issue.
“Some councillors from my Mormugao constituency took up the issue in the MMC meeting and said the MLA must take an initiative in this regards. I want to invite all councillors from Wards 1 to 9 to join hands with me and meet the MPA Chairman on Friday, if they are really serious about coal pollution issue in the constituency.”
“In case things don’t work out, we can later call all 25 councillors of MMC and take a bigger delegation to the MPA along with the people of the constituency and decide on our next step,” said Amonkar.
