PERNEM
Angry taxi operators in Pernem intercepted a Tempo Traveller at Patradevi-Pernem after accusing the operator of transporting tourists between Sindhudurg-Maharashtra and Goa without a permit.
In a complain to the police and transport authorities in Maharashtra and Goa, taxi operators also alleged that the Tempo Traveller had the same registration number as that of another vehicle that had gone for temple visits in Maharashtra.
Speaking to reporters, taxi operator Siddhesh Dhargalkar claimed that an operator from Sindhudurg uses the Tempo Traveller to transport tourists by using same registration number plate for multiple vehicles.
Dhargalkar alleged that the operator carries on his business without paying any tax or charges.
Dhargalkar stated that the taxi operators had caught the vehicle illegally carrying tourists at Patradevi check post on February 18 and had informed the Pernem Police and Pernem Traffic Police. He added that another vehicle bearing the same registration number plate was found at Narsobawadi.
He sought to know why action had not been taken against the operator for using a bogus registration number plate and for illegally transporting tourists.
Other taxi operators were also present on the occasion.
