17,987 students to answer HSSC exam from today

A total of 17,987 students are set to answer the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination 2024 slated to commence from Wednesday.

The examination, to be conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), will be held across 20 centres till March 18.

After two years, the Board has reverted back to its pre-pandemic single-exam format for Class XII from this academic year onwards. For the last two terms, the board examinations were split into two parts: Term I and Term II.

NUMBERS

Goa Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye said that a total of 17,987 students, including 9,437 girls and 8,550 boys, will answer the examination this year.

A maximum number of 5,883 students - 2,616 boys and 3,267 girls - are from the science stream, while another 5,320 - including 2,841 boys and 2,479 girls - are from the Commerce stream. From Arts, there are 4,309 students - 1,379 boys and 2,930 girls - and from vocational, there are 2,475 - 1714 boys and 761 girls.

Last year, a total of 19,377 candidates had answered the March 2023 exams with a pass percentage of 95.46 per cent. The results were based on the performance of Term I and Term II examinations.

TIMETABLE

According to the timetable, for the general stream, the examination will begin with a Geography paper on February 28, followed by a language paper on February 29.

The psychology paper is scheduled on March 2, Accountancy, History, and Physics on March 4, Sociology on March 5, Biology on March 6, Marathi language on March 7, and Banking on March 9. The chemistry paper is scheduled on March 11 while Hindi language on March 12.

The students will answer a mathematics paper on March 15, economics on March 16, and Mathematics and statistics on March 18.
