Alarmed by the rising numbers deaths, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday called for people’s involvement in the fight against dengue in Goa.
“Dengue is a concern. The total number of cases may have fallen in comparison to last year but deaths are more. It is a concern and I think its time people play their part in the fight,” Rane said.
He said, the government and the Health department will not shy away from what has to be done but urged citizens to play their part in ensuring water stagnation is avoided in their neighbourhoods.
Rane said, six deaths have been reported due to Dengue thus far.
The health department on its party is monitoring vulnerable and endemic areas and is also carrying out intensive fogging in schools and other residential colonies.
He also said that civic bodies and panchayats also should play their role as stagnation of water and conditions conducive to mosquito breeding usually spring up in their jurisdictions especially where construction and other development work is in progress.
He said, he has issued instructions to the Health department officials to haul up and if need be withdraw NOCs granted for shanties around construction sites across Goa under the Public Health Act.
