MARGAO
Teams of Margao Urban Health Centre fanned out to various Margao Municipal wards as the dengue scare has refused to die down in the commercial capital.
Around six teams of workers descended in the government Junta quarters, housing around 32 buildings, after dengue raised its ugly head with at least two persons testing positive for dengue.
Not taking any chances, with heavy rains continuing to lash the city, the teams went about spraying insecticides in and around the buildings housed in the complex. Health workers also inspected each and every residential quarter to find out whether the flower pots and other water storage items have become breeding ground for the mosquitoes. The residents were explained the do’s and don’ts how to prevent mosquito breeding in their residential quartres, with special emphasis laid on explaining the residents that the dengue mosquitoes breeds in flower pots.
It’s over a month now since dengue had raised its ugly head in the commercial capital, with the menace prevalent in the areas of Gogol, Borda and Aquem. Margao Urban Health Officer, Dr Anju Kharangate, however, said the situation is under control, though there’s no room for complacency in tackling the disease. “Our health workers have been visiting the areas which have reported suspected dengue cases. Instructions have been issued to the health workers to inquire with the households whether there’s any case of fever amongst the inmates,” Dr Kharangate said.
Saying that the continuous rainfall has compounded the dengue problem, with the mosquitoes breeding in clean water, the Health Officer made a fervent plea to the households to ensure there’s no water accumulation in the flower pots and other items around the households.
