A Delhi court on Saturday granted a three-day transit warrant to swimming coach, Surajit Ganguly even as a team of Goa Police are expected to fly him down to Goa late tonight.

The tainted coach has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl who was training under him in the State.

“The Tis Hazari Court in Delhi has granted three day transit warrant to the accused. He will be brought to Goa later tonight,” said Gajanan Prabhudessai, Mapusa DySP.

Mapusa Police are expected to complete the procedure of his formal arrest on Sunday and later produce him for a police remand.

Acting swiftly, Goa Police had apprehended the accused from the Kashmere Gate area in New Delhi on Friday after putting his mobile on surveillance.

According to police he kept changing his location in bid to evade arrest.

The minor’s father in his complaint had said that the accused coach had been sexually harassing his

daughter for the last six months.

Based on his complaint, Mapusa Police had registered an FIR against the coach under Sections 461 (trespass), 354 (outraging modesty), 376 (rape) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act and Sections 6 and 8 of POCSO Act.

Meanwhile, the Swimming Federation of India and Goa Swimming Association have discontinued the services of the disgraced coach soon after a video of him allegedly molesting the minor girl went viral on social media.

Incidentally, both the minor girl and the alleged accused coach are native of West Bengal.
