Health Minister on Saturday clarified that the fees of both institutions under the Goa Dental College will not be raised.
Taking to Twitter to clear the air, health minister wrote, “With reference to hike in fee structure at Goa Dental College, it was a matter of communication gap between the Public Health Department and both the institutions of Goa Dental Colleges. However, we have issued necessary instructions to not increase the fees of both the institutions.
The fees for postgraduate course were hiked by almost 800 per cent through an order issued on November 6 for the students who had already secured an admission. The fees were raised from Rs 12,000 per semester to Rs one lakh per semester forcing the students to submit a written communication listing their grievances with the Undersecretary of Health.
“With the revised fees of rupees one lakh per semester, it translates into a whopping 833.3 per cent increase from the previous amount of fees charged for the respective courses and such a substantial increase that too after the students have taken admission is wholly arbitrary, unreasonable and unjustified,” the students the letter stated.
They had also questioned the timing of the sudden and inexplicable raise in fees.
