MARGAO
After a brief lull, desecration of places of worship has come to haunt the Goa police again, after a cross was found vandalised by unknown persons late Monday night.
The Margao police has brought for questioning one person by name Glen D’Souza, a resident of Pajifond, based on a CCTV footage from the neighbouring area.
The right hand of Jesus Christ on the cross was found broken while the flower pots and the candle stand vandalised by the miscreants.
The incident is believed to have occurred between 8 pm to 10 pm, leaving the residents of the locality shocked and surprised.
A local resident, Alfredo Fernandes, who later lodged a complaint with the Margao police, informed that the incident has occurred between 8 pm to 10 pm Monday night.
“When I had passed by the side of the cross, which is known in the locality as a Golden Cross at around 8 pm, I found the cross intact. However, I got a call from one person two hours later at around 10 pm that the cross has
been desecrated by known miscreants,” he said, adding ‘when the neighbours all came to the site, they saw the cross being desecrated by unknown persons’.
Alfredo lodged his complaint with the Margao police on Tuesday morning, following which the Margao police conducted a site panchanama.
Margao PI Kapil Nayak told the media that the accused Glen D’Souza has been arrested based on the CCTV footage. He said the accused, who is a resident of Pajifond, is running a business at
the station road. He has
been arrested for hurting the religious sentiments of the people.
The police is investigating.
