Expects 5,000-vote lead for Congress

MARGAO

Even as son and Opposition leader Yuri Alemao has come under sustained attack from Team BJP led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in his home constituency Cuncolim, former Minister Joaquim Alemao has exuded confidence that people of Cuncolim will give around 4000-5000 vote lead for the Congress in the May 7 election.

Admitting that the troika comprising of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Social Welfare Minster, Subhash Faldesai, besides Srinivas Baba Dempo have launched a concerted campaign in Cuncolim in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, Joaquim said people of Cuncolim will give a befitting reply to the BJP in tomorrow’s election.

When his attention was drawn to reports that the BJP may outwit the Congress right in Cuncolim constituency represented by his son and Opposition leader Yuri Alemao, Joaquim said “it is a fact that the BJP led by the Chief Minister has made a determined bid to take a lead in Cuncolim. But, I am confident that the people of Cuncolim will give a befitting rely to the BJP on May 7”.

The former two-time Cuncolim MLA said that Congress candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes will get a vote lead of 4000-5000 in Cuncolim this time round.

Political observers pointed out that even a slender vote lead by the BJP against the Congress in Cuncolim would put the Opposition leader in a tight spot not only in the party scheme of things, but right in Cuncolim constituency, where Yuri may have to face a host of questions.
