Says police seized 255 kgs of drugs worth Rs 9 crore

Director General of Police Alok Kumar on Friday said the detection rate of crimes in Goa remains impressively high at 88.38 percent.
In a comprehensive update during the Goa Police Raising Day function, Kumar revealed achievements on the crime and law enforcement fronts, including a crackdown on drug trafficking by registering 154 cases under the NDPS Act, arresting 178 culprits, and seizing about 255 kgs of drugs worth over Rs 9 crores.
“The situation has remained under control on the Crime and Law & Order front. The detection rate has been 88.38 percent, which speaks volumes of your hard work and professionalism. Similarly, during the period, 154 cases under the NDPS Act have been booked...and consolidated drugs seized approximately valued at more than Rs 9 crores, which is the highest ever in terms of the value of the drugs seized by Goa Police,” he stated.
On traffic enforcement, a total of 4.91 lakh cases under the Motor Vehicles Act have been booked, of which a fine of Rs 29.28 crore has been collected. In addition to these, 184 awareness programmes were conducted to educate the public on cybercrime and cybersecurity, to prevent growing threats from digitalisation and e-commerce.
Kumar stated that the Cyber Crime Police Station (PS) has solved 15 cases and arrested 38 accused persons. The DNA Fingerprinting Division at Verna Forensic Science Laboratory examined 1,259 cases in the last year.
The ‘PINK Force,’ an initiative for women and children’s safety, has responded to over 9,500 distress calls in its first year. Meanwhile, the Coastal Security personnel have undergone specialised training and achieved over 90 percent success in the Sagar Kavach and Sea Vigil Exercises conducted by the Coast Guard and Navy.
The DGP further outlined ambitious infrastructural projects for the year 2025-26, including the construction of buildings for Sanguem Police Station, Old Goa Police Station, Police Out Post Chorao and Keri; residential quarters at Altinho and Maina Curtorim; and an administrative block at PHQ.
