OLD GOA
Vice-President of Zimbabwe, Dr C.G.D.N. Chiwenga, venerated the Sacred Relics of St Francis Xavier on Friday along with his family and others.
Dr Chiwenga was accompanied by Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira, Collector Sneha Gitte, Fr Henry Falcao, and Fr Lawrence Fernandes, along with officials, to the Se Cathedral to venerate the Sacred Relics.
Later, Dr Chiwenga participated in the English Mass at the Basilica of Bom Jesus.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Chiwenga informed that he came specifically for the Exposition of the Relics of St Francis Xavier and also because the sons of three to four members of a royal family from his land had visited Goa centuries ago, one of whom is buried in the St Barbara Church in Chimbel.
“This year, I made a commitment to bring my family to come and participate in this one-time important event. So I have come with my wife and children,” stated Dr Chiwenga.
“India, and Goa in particular, has got an umbilical cord with our country which cannot be broken,” Dr Chiwenga said, adding that the Exposition gives greater faith that God does great things for those who believe in Him.
