Residents of Dhaktalem on Sunday agitated on sewage flowing through drains meant to carry rain water. The residents alleged that the sewage emits foul smell all over the area besides acting as a to a mosquito breeding site. They also claimed that this had caused some people to fall sick.
Dhaktalem residents have appealed to their local coucilors and the health department to take immediate steps to resolve their this issue. They also urged PWD department to intervene and make arrangements to carry the sewage through the sewerage line. “This is become a regular issue and we cannot live here anymore. We have filed several complains to the health department and they must take immediate action. Since we are at lower level of the hillock, water along with sewage and human excreta flows from residential colonies that are based on the upper part of the hillock. This is become a regular affair and every four days, the sewage is left in the drains .Worst is it goes to the pond in the area and contaminates the entire water body,” said Manoj Naik a
resident.
“The PWD sewerage department must also intervene because the sewerage line is always chocked in mangoor Hill area and hence sewerage overflows to a nullah and then to dactolem area,” said another resident Tulshidas Palyekar.
