MARGAO
Hundreds, if not thousands, of dhirio enthusiasts thronged Mandopa in Navelim village on Thursday evening to witness a series of traditional bull fights organised at the venue.
Notably, police personnel were conspicuous by their absence during the event. However, sources said the Margao Police have initiated the process of registering an FIR against the organisers for allegedly conducting the prohibited bull fights.
According to sources, three bull fights had been scheduled at Mandopa on Thursday evening. However, only two bouts were eventually held, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic spectators.
This is the second such bull fight reported within the jurisdiction of the Margao Police Station this month. The first event was held at Telaulim earlier this month.
The district administration has recently taken serious cognisance of the recurrence of bull fights across Salcete taluka. Officials are reportedly considering action not only against the organisers but also against landowners who permit their properties to be used for staging the events.
