MARGAO
The Model Margao panel floated by Leader of Opposition Digmabar Kamat and Goa Forward-backed candidates filed their nomination papers before Returning Officer Jyoti Kumar on Saturday.

With the Supreme Court scheduled to the hear the Wad reservation tangle on Tuesday, both Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai did not turn up at the office of the Returning Officer with their candidates.

The 11 candidates contesting on the Model Margao invoked the blessing of Lord Damodar at the Pimpalkatta accompanied by the Leader of Opposition and his supporters. On the other hand, the Goa Forward-backed candidates filed their nomination papers and left the centre.

Addressing the media, Model Margao candidate and former MMC Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar said the panel floated by the Leader of the Opposition will win the ensuing election. He, however, said there should be no complacency and the group will work hard to win majority of the seats.

Another Model Margao candidate and former Councilor Damu Shirodkar said that the panel have not officially unveiled the names of the candidates in view of the Supreme Court hearing on March 9. He, however, said the Model Margao panel floated by the Opposition leader is all geared up for the ensuing polls.

The Model Margao has retained four of the sitting Councilors, while the remaining seven candidates are ether new candidates or those who had contested in the Municipal polls in the past.
