A doctor’s clinic and some shops in the deteriorated and unsafe Prabhu building at Chaudi-Canacona have been issued a notice to vacate the building as it faces demolition.

Canacona Municipal Council Chief Officer Laxmikant R Dessai issued a notice to Damodar Narayan Prabhu on June 25, directing him to stop commercial activities and vacate the premises immediately and demolish the same within 15 days.

CMC cited a structural audit report of the building situated at Chaudi (Canacona) obtained from Goa Engineering College which stated that the structure has undergone irreversible deterioration and are critically unsafe with high risk of sudden collapse without prior warning.

GEC further stated that the structure is located at a busy public area posing danger to the public safety and property.

The CMC chief officer warned that failure to vacate and demolish the building within 15 days would compel the CMC to seal the premises and carry out the demolition without further notice.

One Shankar Naik had submitted an urgent complaint and reminder to the Canacona dy collector on June 23, regarding the dilapidated condition of the building.

Stating that 90% of the building has collapsed and the remaining portion is on the verge of collapsing, Naik called for urgent and immediate action from the authorities.

The dy collector accordingly directed the CMC chief officer for quicker action in the matter in view of public safety, Naik stated.
