Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal-elect Filipe Neri Ferrão has established the Diocesan Commission as per guidelines of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI).
The Executive Committee of the commission was officially given charge on World Environment Day through Fr Kenneth Teles, Dean of Mormugao Deanery, on behalf of Cardinal-elect Ferrão.
The Executive Committee appointed for a three-year term comprises Fr Bolmax Pereira (convenor) and Fr Anthony Carvalho (secretary-cum-treasurer), Dr Joshua D’Mello, Miguel Braganza, Yannah Angelica Marchon, Valucio Rodrigues, Sr Liberata Fernandes, SFN and Mable Noronha (members).
The members introduced themselves and delivered a short message for environmental protection as the DCE celebrated World Environment Day in collaboration with Chicalim Parish Youth at St Francis Xavier Church premises in Chicalim on June 5.
Incidentally, the Archdiocese of Goa became the first diocese to implement the call given by the CCBI on the fifth anniversary of the encyclical ‘Laudato Si’ by Pope Francis. This Commission is affiliated to CCBI Commission for Ecology headed by Bishop Allwyn D’Silva.
