Barely two days after opting out of the GoaMiles taxi app, about 100 tourist taxi operators of the Mormugao Tourist Taxi Union (MTTU) took a U-turn on Tuesday and sought a return to the app-based taxi service.

Most tourist taxi operators affiliated to MTTU on Tuesday extended their unconditional support to their Union leader Manoj Tari, after accusing him of collecting union fees on the pretext of allotting them a dedicated counter at the Dabolim

Airport.

Addressing the media on Tuesday morning, Tari said there had been a misunderstanding as members of other unions had misguided MTTU members to break from the union and withdraw from the GoaMiles App.

Clarifying on the amount collected, Tari said: “The amount collected from taxi operators was union fees and some people who had joined after eight months were charged Rs 4,100, with Rs 100 as registration fees and Rs 500 as monthly

union charges.”

Stating that the MTTU was formed to handle touting cases at the Airport, Tari said he had always approached the GTDC with major issues of MTTU members.

“Following their grievances on Sunday, I met all members and also produced all bills and expenses of the union. After clarifying my position, most of the MTTU members were convinced and they offered their apologies. They also requested me to approach GTDC to allow them re-entry into the GoaMiles App.”

“I had never committed a dedicated counter for our members, but only had informed them that we could make use of the GTDC app-based taxi service through their counter at the airport for good business during the upcoming season,” said Tari.

“I request the GTDC to accept their apologies and permit them to be re-registered in the GoaMiles app again,” said Tari.
