CANACONA
South Goa District Congress leaders and members burnt an effigy of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla as part of their protest against the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as MP.
Youth Congress leaders met at KTC Bus Stand in Chaudi raising slogans against the BJP government for trying to gag Congress leaders from speaking the truth.
The group marched inside the KTC Complex and spoke against the manner in which a complaint was lodged in a Surat (Gujarat) court against Rahul Gandhi for delivering a speech in an election campaign in Karnataka in 2019, the dramatic conviction for the alleged defamation, delivering a verdict of maximum of two years in jail, his immediate suspension/disqualification as Lok Sabha MP, and thereafter an eviction notice to vacate the official bungalow which Rahul Gandhi was occupying as Member of Parliament for several terms.
“It is a ploy to silence the voices questioning the government for the ills it brought on the people of the nation. We will continue to support our leader Rahul Gandhi who, according to us, has not committed any offence calling for such treatment,” District Youth Congress president Mahesh Naikgaunkar said.
GPYC (South) Vice President Vaishnav Pednekar, Canacona Congress Minority Cell President Gaspar Coutinho, OBC Cell Ajay Pagui and Canacona Congress Block President Abel Borges were among several Congress activists who took part in the protest.
