MARGAO
They might all be opponents politically, but in a sheer coincidence, the ruling Goa Forward Party, opposition Congress and the neutral NCP seemed to be sharing a common agenda -- to oppose dissolution of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Fears on the dissolution of the Goa Assembly have apparently come to the fore as it is being felt in political circles that certain sections within the ruling BJP may be tempted to go in for mid-term Assembly election along with the 2019 Lok Sabha poll to encash on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity and a perceived consolidation of the Hindu vote.
If Goa Forward Party Supremo and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai has strongly conveyed to the BJP observers during their visit to Goa his demand that the Assembly should not be dissolved before the expiry of the term, the Congress followed suit on Monday by petitioning to the Governor against the Assembly dissolution. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)’s lone MLA Churchill Alemao has also demanded that the governor should not dissolve the Assembly, saying the people of Goa have given the mandate to the present lot of MLAs to rule the state for a five-year term.
Don’t want any ailing leader as CM: Gaude
PONDA: Claiming that attempts to link him with the Goa Forward Party have been politically motivated, Art and Culture Minister and Priol’s Independent MLA Govind Gaude said he would always remain with the BJP, but would not support another ailing person to replace an unwell Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Referring to efforts to elevate PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, who had recently undergone medical treatment in Mumbai, Gaude insisted he had nothing personal against the MGP. Speaking to The Goan, the minister also admitted that the state administration had suffered due to the current political scenario.
