At a function of Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) held in Panaji, three children's books - ‘by Maria S Afonso, ‘by Vincy Quadros, and ‘by Gajanan Jog were released.

and , were transliterated in Romi Konknni from Devnagri by Vincy Quadros and were earlier published in parts in ‘Jivit’ magazine.

Speaking on this occasion, former Principal of St Xaviers College, Mapusa, Fr Walter de Sa, who was the chief guest, said the DKA needs to be complimented for publishing books for children. “Such books will also help us during catechism classes and at the time of preparing our Sunday homilies.”

Fr de Sa also expressed the need of book stores in order to make children’s literature available to youngsters and added that care should be taken to arrange these books according to age-groups. He also suggested that such books should be illustrated so that children are at once attracted to them and said it was important to translate these books in other languages in order to enrich our language. Fr de Sa made a mention of some of the traditional games which children once played and had now become extinct and expressed his happiness about the efforts of the writers in documenting the same. He also said that children must be encouraged to write books.

DKA President Premanand A Lotlikar and all the three writers also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Fr Conceicao D’Silva welcomed and Epifanio Valadares delivered the vote of thanks. The function was compered by Brenda Menezes.

Tree plantation drive at PorvorimPANAJI: Giants Group of Porvorim Saheki organised a tree plantation drive in Government High School, Alto-Betim. Different saplings including those of medicinal plants were planted in the school premises. The saplings were planted and the duty of nurturing them was entrusted to different classes in the school.
