Saying that the just-concluded five-day budget session was nothing but an eyewash, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Saturday made a plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant not to discard the Opposition role in running the legislative business of the House.
“The Chief Minister has alleged that the Opposition did not allow the functioning of the House in the just-concluded session, but I would like to inform Dr Pramod Sawant that his charge against Opposition is not true and his government should not discard the Opposition role in running the legislative business of the House,” he said in a statement.
Reginaldo pointed out that since the last Monsoon Session, he has been trying to bring before the government for the acceptance of Private Members’ Resolution on getting a life-size statue of Dr Jack de Sequeria to be installed in the Goa Legislative Assembly complex.
“It seems the State government is allergic to discussing Goa’s first Opposition Leader who is also respectfully called by all Goemkars as the Father of the Opinion Poll,” he added.
Similarly, Reginaldo said he had hoped to raise many an issue affecting the people of Goa through calling attention motions, but in vain.
“One of my postponed Starred LAQs on a vital subject connected with communal harmony from the last session titled ‘Sanathan Saunstha in the State’ which was listed as Starred LAQ 005B for the day 04/02/2020 in the Budget Session was disallowed at the last moment without prior intimation,” he said.
“Similarly for physically challenged people my two Unstarred LAQs 003 and 012 under the respective subjects of Infrastructure for Physically Challenged People and Sports Wheelchairs for Physically Challenged People listed on 06.02.2020 received false and misleading reply,” he said, adding that he has requested the Secretary of Legislature for postponement in Notice under Rule 51 of Goa Legislative Assembly Rules of Procedures & Conduct of Business.
