With Goencho Ekvott and other organizations intensifying their agitation against double tracking and coal transportation, Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa has fixed a joint inspection and demarcation of the railway property at Majorda-Utorda village tentatively on Tuesday.
South Western Railway deputy general manager, S G Banerji and other railway officials called on the Nuvem MLA on Friday, days after he wrote a letter to the SWR after the Goencho Ekvott and other organizations handed over to him a memorandum on the double-tracking project passing through Majorda-Utorda in Nuvem constituency.
The SWR officials are believed to have explained to him that the railways have started the work on the railway acquired property. The MLA, however, has insisted on the joint inspection and demarcation of the railway property in view of the apprehensions raised by the villagers.
The MLA later told the media that after he has given a memorandum by organizations opposing the double tracking project and coal transportation, he had visited the railway site at Utorda. “People complained that the railways have started some work in the property without the acquisition. Hence, I had requested the railway officials to come for a discussion before carrying out the inspection and demarcation of the property”, he said.
The SWR has also requested the MLA to invite the Konkan Railway Corporation officials for the inspection.
Sources in the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd informed that the railways are already in possession of property for the double-tracking project along the Majorda-Utorda stretch, acquired years ago.
The railway officials pointed out that the railways are in need of around 1200 square meters of land at Majorda-Utorda village, adding that the railways will try to get the land in question with consent of the owners or would move for acquisition under the Railways Act.
Organizations agitating against the double-tracking project and coal transportation had called on the Nuvem MLA with a memorandum as the railways have started work on the double tracking project along the Majorda-Utorda stretch.
