CANACONA
After four dengues cases were recorded in Canacona in May, health officials began a drive to inspect sites and to create awareness regarding vector-borne diseases in the taluka.
According to Canacona Health Services personnel, the four dengue cases were from Gaondongrim village.
“All these persons had visited their relatives in a neighbouring taluka (where the particular area had a few dengue cases) for holidays and are believed to have contracted the virus from there,” informed source in the health team.
Added Canacona Sanitary Inspector Pranay Naik: “All four dengue cases in Canacona are cleared as of now. However, we are not taking any chances not only for dengue infection but also for various other vector-borne diseases such as Malaria, Filaria. We are inspecting and surveying several residential sites and are taking up sanitisation drives on various fronts.”
The health team checked water containers, plastic barrels, flower pots, tyres, glass bottles, etc. and also advise people to keep all their utensils covered to prevent mosquito breeding sites.
Among those who participated in the inspection and survey drives included Medical Officer Dr Diwakarji Velip, Sanitary Inspector Pranay Naik and CHC staff.
