The General Administration Department (GAD) has warned drivers of government vehicles that they will be held personally responsible for any penalties or legal consequences if the vehicles allotted to them are found without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.
In a circular issued on August 6, the department directed all drivers whose vehicles have expired or soon-to-expire PUC certificates to get them renewed within one week. The GAD said it had noticed that several government vehicles were operating without valid PUC certificates, in violation of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The circular states that failure to renew the certificate within the stipulated period will make the concerned driver personally liable for fines, penalties or any other action arising from the absence of a valid PUC certificate.
Drivers have also been instructed to submit a copy of the renewed PUC certificate to the GAD for reimbursement of the renewal fee and keep the original certificate in the vehicle for inspection. Those taking charge of newly allotted government vehicles have been asked to ensure the vehicles carry valid PUC certificates before use.
