Goa witnessed a first of its kind drum circle flash mob on Friday, wherein renowned drum circle facilitator and psychologist Arthur Fernandes along with students of the St Xavier’s college, Mapusa and other locals enthralled the rapt audience at Miramar beach.
The flash mob, said Fernandes, was a way for him to give back to the people of Goa through what Goans love the most, music. Through the beats of the djembes, the students along with Fernandes wanted to highlight the importance of coconut trees to Goa. “What is Goa without it’s coconut trees," said Gable Mascaranhes, a young student.
The flash mob began with young drumming prodigy Nathan Miranda whose beats started to attract the locals out on an evening stroll at the beach. Other drummers soon followed suit orchestrated by Fernandes on the djembe himself. Soon enough over 50 ardent drummers thumped away rhythmically in a circle attracting onlookers.Fernandes who is a known face in Goa for his drum circles was humbled by the response of the locals. “I just wanted to do my bit for the lovely state of Goa. I felt that this was the best way possible to also spread the message about the importance of the coconut trees to Goa.”
Arthur Fernandes stated that he, and the entire flash mob group are not part of any movement, protest or "Save Goa Chipko Andolan".
