Drunken and reckless driving continues to haunt the State

 As road accidents continue to rock the State, a huge number of cases of drunken driving and reckless driving have been reported over the last two years. This also includes 19 motor vehicle accidents due to drunken driving in 2023 “ the year that witnessed the horrific accident at Banastarim killing three persons on the spot.

In 2023, an average of 5 cases of drunken driving was booked daily with a total of 2053 cases for the year. This was a sharp rise from 1407 cases booked in 2022.  

Moreover, 5209 and 4143 cases of reckless driving were recorded in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Despite serious accidents and offenses booked during special drives by the authorities, not a single driving license has been revoked from January 2022 till date.


The Home Department however maintains that there have been instances of driving license revocation related to accidents from previous years.
