Stating that accidental cases during night time are on the rise in the State, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the State government will work out ways to stop drink and drive incidents as well as incidents of over-speeding by bringing necessary changes in the law.
Speaking to reporters at Panaji on Friday, Sawant said, “accident cases at night are on the rise in Goa. One such incident occurred at Mapusa too. If we look overall situation and if a survey is done, maximum cases occurred due to drink and drive, and full speed driving resulting in loss of control over the vehicles resulting in such types of accidents.”
The statement of the CM comes against the backdrop of the Zuari mishap in which an over-speeding SUV veered off the lane, jumped the pavement and crashed the protective barrier, before falling into the river. All four occupants, three of who were from one family, died in the mishap.
“The traffic department and transport department are also of the view that drink and drive should be stopped. For that, only imposing fines is not the solution. To strictly stop it, whatever changes that are needed in the amendments and rules will be worked out in a few days,” he added.
