According to statistics released by the CEO, a bulk of the banners were removed in South Goa with nearly 2621 banners, posters and other materials being brought down in South Goa as compared to only 759 in North Goa totaling 3318 from public property including electricity poles, telephone poles government and government owned corporation buildings and other public places. In addition 636 banners and posters were removed from private property for violating the norms.
Kunal said that the enforcement of the code has been satisfactory, although the challenge will be to ensure that the banners do not rise up once again and that other strictures of the code are implemented.
“I have taken a surprise round to get a feel of the situation. I have witnessed that the state is largely compliant with the model code of conduct,” Kunal said.
Besides this, Kunal informed that the Election Commission of India has issued fresh instructions regarding the size of election rally convoys which cannot exceed ten vehicles and if the number of vehicles is more then there will have to be a gap of 200 metres before the next ten vehicles can move in order that the general public is not inconvenienced. “They cannot occupy more than half the road width, children in school uniform cannot be taking part in rallies, firecrackers and firearms are banned, and many other similar strictures have been put in place,” Kunal said.
