Settling the long dispute between two groups to control one of the oldest educational society in Canacona taluka, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has ended the feud by granting approval to the new school managing committee.

It may be recalled that two groups had locked horns with each other, with one attempting to gain control and the other trying to regain control of Institute de Educasao Progressiva (IEP), running Shri Baneshwar Vidyalaya, Kindlem-Pansule, Canacona.

The dispute had gone on ever since a new management committee was elected a year ago.

The outgoing committee on various occasions had refused to hand over charge to the newly elected committee, despite decisions of Registrar of Societies and Director of Education going in favour of the new committee.

DoE has further named the school managing committee under the chairmanship of Krishna M Desai, Amar R Desai (headmaster), Dhanjay B Desai (manager), Pramod R Desai (PTA member), Umakant Powar (teacher representative), Chaya P Desai (retired teacher), Sneha D Desai, Mahableshwar S Desai and Suhas J Desai (members) and ADEI Canacona (nominated representative of DoE) as members.

The order dated April 15, signed by Director of Education G P Bhat, approved the new school managing committee for the period June 1, 2015, to December 31, 2016, stated that “the above approved committee shall form the scheme of management and shall renew the society within one year to who, permission was granted to start a school.”

DoE had earlier issued an order on February 11, revoking previous committee under the chairmanship of Shantaji R Naik Gaonkar and had also considered an order from District Registrar and Inspector General of Society, South directing Shantaji R Naik and others to hand over total assets, movable and immovable, of the society Institute de Educasao Progressiva to chairman Kusta P Desai.
