New academic year

The Education Department has granted further 10 days for public feedback on draft notification for resuming the new academic year for schools in April.
The draft Goa School Education (Amendment) Rules, 2025, dated March 12, proposed to start classes for Class I to V and Class XI from June as usual and for Class VI to X and Class XII from April. To this, it had sought feedback from the public giving a five-day window period.
The corrigendum dated March 19 stated “on fifth and eighth line, for words “five days”, wherever they occur, the words “fifteen days” shall be read.” The second amendment is related to the classes which will continue to start in June.
The previous notification had stated that the academic year for Class I to V and Class IX shall ordinarily commence in June and shall end in April. “For the expression “class I to V and class IX”, the expression “class I to V and class XI” shall be read,” stated the amended draft notification.
As per the proposed changes, the academic year for Class VI to X and Class XII is to commence in April and end in March, provided there is a break of one week between the end of the academic year and the beginning of the new academic year. All classes are to have summer vacation for five weeks from May 1.
The Goan was the first to report that the government is considering granting additional time of 10-15 days to stakeholders to submit their suggestions following requests from the parents. The government, on March 19, also submitted to the High Court of Bombay at Goa that they will consider objections to the draft before a final notification within the next fortnight.
The department decided to resume the new academic year for the mentioned classes from April 7 while the remaining from June 5.
