Election commission gears up for municipal polls

Goa State Election Commission, wide an extraordinary gazette notification published on September 1, has announced the schedule of the general municipal elections for 159 wards of 11 municipal councils spread over 307 polling stations.

The notification of reservation wards for various categories was issued on September 23, by the Department of Municipal Administration/Urban Development Department. The electoral roll was published at designated locations by the concerned returning officers.

The designated returning officers will receive the nominations at designated locations from September 30 to October 8, between 11 am to 2 pm. The nomination forms will be scrutinised on October 9, and the date for withdrawal is October 10. The list of contesting candidates will be displayed by the concerned returning officers on October 10, at 2 pm.

Elections will be held on October 25, and the polling hours will be 8 am to 5 pm, while the counting of votes will be held on October 27, from 8 am onwards.

The Collectors have been appointed as the District Municipal Council Election Officers. The schedule of elections, reservation notification, nomination forms along with affidavits, forms for appointment of polling/counting agents, election agents, instructions to candidates, nomination fees are uploaded on the Goa State Election Commission’s website.

Aspiring/contesting candidates can download the forms and submit it along with the necessary documents to the Returning Officer along with the prescribed deposit as per the Act.
