The Commissioner of Railway Safety on Friday conducted an inspection of the Karwar-Margao stretch of the Konkan Railway, which has been electrified as part of the KR electrification project.
The stretch between Margao railway station and Tivim will be inspected on Monday.
The inspection of the electrified route by the Commissioner of Railway Safety is a prelude to the running of trains on the Konkan Railway route on electricity.
Senior Konkan Railway officials led by the Chairman cum Managing Director Sanjay Gupta and all Heads of Departments, KR accompanied the Commissioner of Railway Safety during the inspection of the electrified track between Karwar and Margao on Friday.
Officials of the Konkan Railway informed that the inspection was successful and met the laid down parameters. A senior official, however, hastened to add that the trains on the electrified stretch will run on power once the Konkan Railway receives the nod from the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
The Konkan Railway Corporation has undertaken an ambitious programme to electrify the entire route. Though the corporation had set a deadline to run electric trains on the route by December, officials said the project is likely to see the light of the day soon.
