The meeting of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday morning witnessed heated discussions on the garbage issue, with former chairperson Bhavna Nanoskar and councillor Sandesh
Mesta sparring over Nanoskar’s visit to the garbage treatment plant during her tenure as chairperson.
According to sources, the argument broke out when Mesta said Nanoskar had gone to the garbage treatment plant for a site visit as chairperson, but had refused to step out of her official car and inspect the area on grounds of unbearable stench.
Nanoskar hit back saying Mesta had never worked for the people and was lying to defame her.
Mesta alleged that Nanoskar was never capable of being a chairperson and should have resigned morally the day she felt uncomfortable at MMC’s garbage treatment plant, instead of waiting to be thrown out of power
in a no-confidence motion against her.
“If she had made a proper site visit and had inspected the area, there would have been no fire at the garbage treatment plant. Former Chairperson Deepak Naik and present MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar have gone to the site to inspect the area and find solutions,” said Mesta.
“If she thinks the place is full of stench, I agree with her, but what about people who live there for years? What should they do and what should they expect from such a chairperson who herself did not want to be there for a minute?”
“I have also informed MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar that if the garbage issue is not resolved, residents of my ward and I will protest on the streets, and, if necessary. We will block all vehicles bringing in garbage and will send them back without allowing them to empty garbage at the site,” warned Mesta.
