MARGAO
Ex-students of Loyola High school and parents of wards assembled at the Loyola school complex to express their solidarity with the Principal Fr Basil Vago, who has been accused for assaulting an eight std student on Saturday, even as the Children’s Court heard arguments on the anticipatory bail application filed by the Principal on Friday.
While the Margao police closed the entrance gate to the police headquarters anticipating that the ex-students and parents may come to the police to inquire about the registration of FIR against Fr Basil, the ex-students made it clear that they have only assembled just to show their solidarity with the school principal. They later dispersed from the school compound saying they will chalk out their future course of action in a day or two.
Meanwhile, arguments on the anticipatory bail
application of the school Principal Fr Basil Vago were heard before Children’s Court presided by Judge Vandana Tendulkar on Thursday. The arguments will continue on Friday as well as the police did not submit the medical
and hurt certificate before the court on Thursday.
Appearing for Fr Vago, city-based lawyer, Adv Rajeev Gomes submitted before the court that the offences with which the Principal is charged do not warrant custodial interrogation and therefore his arrest is not required. He submitted that though the CCTV footage has been available at the school, it has not been attached by the police till now, saying the management of the school had gone several times to the police station to hand over the footage.
Pointing out that the offense had taken place on January 27, Adv Gomes said the complaint with the police was filed only on 29th, questioning the delay.
