A WhatsApp message alleging a deal between GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar and BJP Minister Michael Lobo to stop Congress’ alliance with other parties has kicked up a row of sorts.
Congress leader from Curtorim Moreno Rebello, a contender for the Curtorim Congress ticket, on Saturday, lodged a complaint with the Maina-Curtorim police requesting for a probe into the WhatsApp message.
What forced Moreno Rebello, the ex-Curtorim Zilla Panchayat member to lodge a complaint with the police was the fact that the message was forwarded on a Curtorim social media group using his WhatsApp number.
Accompanied by wife, Curtorim ZP member Michelle Rebello and Curtorim Block Congress member Milagres Fernandes, Moreno lodged the complaint with a plea to investigate the matter and bring out the truth.
Later, speaking to the media outside the Maina-Curtorim police station, Moreno said somebody has forwarded a message on social media using his number saying the Congress president Girish Chodankar has fixed a deal with Michael Lobo to keep alliance with other parties in abeyance.
He further stated that the message states that Girish has allegedly struck the deal by keeping the two working presidents away. “I have come to lodge a complaint with the police since I have nothing to do with the social media message. I believe in the GPCC Chief and have high respect for him. I have clarified my stand on the social media message and hope the two working presidents also clarify so that the people do not get confused”, he said.
“I have clarified since the people who are going out to vote for the Congress should not have any doubts. We have done our bit by filing a complaint with the cybercrime. I hope the police investigates the matter quickly so that there’s clarity in the minds of the people and the controversy is put to rest,” he added.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar, when contacted, told The Goan that a deliberate attempt is being made by a group over the last one year to tarnish his image.
“People of Goa know Girish Chodankar and they have faith and trust in me. Those spreading these messages with false and baseless allegations will not succeed in their diabolic plan,” he added.
