Rajesh Faldesai led his panel to a sweeping win in elections to the Goa Dairy's board of directors, winning nine of the 12 seats on Monday.
The remaining seats were won by the Sahakari panel (2) and Shrikant Naik from his panel.
Those members who have been elected as board of directors were Ulhas Pandurang Sinari with 80 votes, followed by Rajesh Faldesai (79), Vithoba Datta Desai (78), Vijaykant Gaonkar (75), Gurudas Parab (50), Madhav Sahakari (69), Baburao Shrikant Fatodesai (67), Uday Prabhu (63), Nitin Prabhugaonkar (62), Babu Falle (60), Anup Desai (58) and Shrikant Naik (54).
Former Goa Dairy chairman Durgesh Shirodkar who contested elections without attaching himself to any panel got only 43 votes.
As many as 166 of the 167 chairpersons of milk cooperatives voted in the elections on Sunday and 38 candidates were in the fray. Counting took place on on Monday morning and seven votes were discarded.
There was an interesting fight between Shrikant Naik and Vikas Prabhu as both were tied on 54 votes. A toss conducted went in favour of Shrikant Naik and he was declared the winner.
Rajesh Faldesai of the winning panel said Goa Dairy is presently at a critical stage and serious efforts are needed to raise the standar of Goa Dairy.
"We will take government’s help to safeguard the interest of dairy farmers. Goa Dairy will be developed with the cooperation of all stakeholders,” said Faldesai.
Vithoba Desai of the winning panel said decisions will be taken in consultation with all members, adding that the new panel would not interfere in ongoing legal fights in courts.
