MARGAO
A group of farmers led by Agostinho Gama on Tuesday demanded immediate demolition of the huts that have come up in their fields opposite the Kudchadkar hospital, Margao.
The demand was made after a Margao Municipal Council technical team descended at the area to conduct site inspection of the structures after the farmers alleged that the owners have encroached in the fields owned by them.
While Agostinho claimed that the land where the structures have come up belongs to him and his family, the migrants occupying the structures demanded documents to show the property ownership, saying they were earlier told by another person to erect the structures.
Agostinho claimed that the number of huts in the fields are only increasing day by day, even as the occupants counter claimed that they have been staying in the area for years now.
The farmers claimed that the structures have managed to get electricity from the Sulabh toilet, demanding to know how the structures can obtain power and water supply connections.
Suspecting the hand of the political god fathers behind the structures, Agostinho demanded that the Margao Municipality and the office of deputy Collector, Margao should immediately initiate action and raze down the structures.
