BJP fights flak, pats govt for handling Covid wave

HAILS IT FOR ACCELERATING PACE OF VACCINATION

MAPUSA
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday hailed the State government for effectively tackling the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic and also accelerating the pace of vaccination to cover 70 percent of the eligible population in the State.

The party also condemned the false propaganda against the BJP-led government in the State and expressed full confidence in the leadership and the performance of the government led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

“Even as the entire world and our country was battling the second wave of Covid pandemic the Goa government led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has bravely battled the pandemic by raising the health infrastructure and other medical facilities in the State,” the party said at a meeting of its State executive committee.

The party said the second wave that struck Goa was so severe that the healthcare system in the State came under pressure due to sudden increase in the number of severe cases during April and May.

“In spite of the best efforts of the government, doctors and other healthcare staff, several persons succumbed to the pandemic. BJP offers deep condolences to the family members of all the victims of Covid-19,” a resolution adopted at the meeting said.

It may be recalled, the State government faced flak and came under intense scrutiny after several patients died allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply in the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim in April-May.

The BJP State executive committee also commended the government for accelerating the pace of vaccination in its efforts to fight and control the pandemic.

It said with the innovative steps like ‘Tika Utsav’ a complete synergy was established between the government and the party, with BJP karyakartas from all villages volunteering to help in the process of getting people out for vaccination.

“With 7.45 lakh persons getting vaccinated till yesterday, Goa has earned the distinction of being the first among all States to vaccinate more than 40 percent of its population,” the party said.

The State executive also congratulated all the frontline Covid warriors, doctors, nurses, para-medical staff, police and other administrative workers for their relentless efforts in fighting the pandemic and also during the natural calamities.

The executive committee commended the decision of the government to grant Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for families of economically weaker section, who lost an earning member to Covid-19.

Further, the party also applauded the government for granting one-time financial aid of Rs 5000 to weaker sections of the society due to slow down of business.

“It is estimated that more than 25,000 families will benefit from the step and this showcases the sensitivity of the BJP government towards the common man,”  the party said.

The BJP also congratulated the government for helping to alleviate concerns of parents and student community by taking appropriate steps with regards to the examinations at various levels.

The executive committee also hailed the CM for the party’s stupendous performance in the Zilla Panchayat and municipal elections held earlier in the State.

Except for the health minister and Panaji MLA Babush Monserrate, who were out of station, all other ministers and MLAs were present for the meeting.
